As a result of the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease, it has been decided that the FIA Smart Cities Forums scheduled for Season 4 of the initiative are to be postponed until further notice.
Following the measures being taken by governments and health authorities around the world, we hope that we will soon return to a more stable situation in which we can continue to promote safe, sustainable, and accessible mobility for all road users via the FIA Smart Cities Forum.
Until then, we will hold continuous consultations with our FIA Member Clubs, partners and key stakeholders within the FIA Smart Cities network to assess potential events at which these Forums could be rescheduled for later in the year.
Launched in 2017, the FIA Smart Cities initiative aims to ensure that urban mobility in the cities of the future is safer, cleaner and more accessible for all road users. Gathering representatives from international organisations, national and local authorities, research institutes, and industry players, the FIA Smart Cities Forum addresses changes to traditional urban mobility models, and how technology is being used to improve standards of living in cities around the world. Season 4 will look at data-driven disruptions in urban mobility and how they are contributing to shaping the cities of tomorrow.
Season 4 of the FIA Smart Cities initiative at a glance
- 17 April 2020: Paris* - Data-Driven Mobility in Smart Cities
The inaugural Forum of the season will focus on the increasingly important influence of data on policy-making and consumers’ transport choices. Discussions will focus on data management and applications to build smarter mobility systems and solutions.
- 2 May 2020: Seoul* – Mobility in the Megacity of the Future
Well known for its use of big data in urban mobility solutions and a megacity by all accounts, Seoul has the potential to push the envelope of smart urban mobility. The Asian city will be the perfect stage for the second Forum to talk about the changes we are set to see in urban mobility over the decade to come, with a specific focus on the development of autonomous and low-emission vehicles.
- 10 July 2020: New York* - Making Transport More Sustainable
With the transport sector accounting for approximately 14 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, the emergence of new technologies is crucial in order to meet growing consumer demand for mobility while simultaneously reducing emissions. As a global innovation hub, New York will play host to a Forum that will look at how innovation in urban mobility can move more people, more efficiently.
- 24 July 2020: London* – Managing Transportation
The closing Forum in London will look at transport management, and how to plan for the multi-modal mobility of the future. It will touch upon the deployment of new technologies to reduce congestion and the use of innovative modelling and simulation tools to encourage evidence-based policy-making.
Leveraging Innovation and Technological Transfer
Each Forum will take place in conjunction with the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, allowing participants to see how the world’s first and only all-electric, urban racing championship provides a unique platform to illustrate the advanced innovations that are being developed in motor sport for potential application in every day motoring, urban transport, and clean technologies.
In this vein, the FIA Smart Cities Forum will give the floor to the finalists of the FIA Smart Cities Global Start-Up Contest. Powered by international start-up accelerator MassChallenge, the contest aims to identify, support and promote the most promising start-ups working on ground-breaking mobility-focused technologies.
Keeping the Discussion Going
For this new season, the FIA Smart Cities initiative is launching fiasmartcities.com, its new, modern, and user-friendly dedicated website. This platform gives access to the initiative’s latest news and videos, as well as information on the next FIA Smart Cities events. The ‘Voices’ section of the website features interviews from leading mobility experts sharing their vision on the future of smart cities.
For more interactivity during the Forum, a new event app will also be launched for this season. Gathering practical information about the event programme and featuring functionalities to facilitate exchange between attendees, speakers, and the FIA, the app will bring the future of urban mobility to your fingertips.
Supported by the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, ABB, Acronis, Julius Baer, Michelin, SAP and MassChallenge, the FIA Smart Cities initiative is working to build the city of the future, today.
* In light of the rapidly changing situation in relation to the coronavirus disease, these Forums have been postponed until further notice.
